Vitaly German
Software developer by profession, and by passion for as long as I can remember.
Hi, I’m Vitaly, a software engineer and team lead. I like hard problems that have real impact, and I’m happiest when the result is something people actually use.
What I’ve worked on
Over the years my work has covered a lot of ground:
- Software verification: I worked as a developer on Coverity Prevent, a static analysis tool that finds defects in source code, and did research in the field during my doctoral studies (more under Education)
- Desktop applications
- Cloud technologies and data backup systems
- Data processing and encryption
- CAD/CAM: computer-aided design and manufacturing software
- AI-assisted development: these days I build with Claude Code, and I’ve written up how I work with it
How I work
I’m comfortable writing the code, writing the documentation, or getting a team pulling in the same direction, whatever the problem needs. In a team I tend to spot the important things nobody is looking at yet, and take them on.
Things I’ve built for fun
This site is my playground. A few pet projects you can try right here:
- Chess against a robot: the Stockfish engine compiled to WebAssembly, running entirely in your browser
- ABC Game: an alphabet game for kids in six languages, built with Flutter
- Function grapher: plot y = f(x) with WebGL
Education
Specialist degree (MSc equivalent) in Computer Science from the International Solomon University. During my doctoral studies I worked on an R&D project in software verification at the V. M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Outside work
I read about AI, programming and distributed systems, solve random math problems, and stay active with fitness and skiing. I’m a big fan of chess, the board game, not just the robot above. And I enjoy a good movie or series in English, which doubles as language practice.
Let’s talk
I’m open to new roles as well as freelance and contract projects. The easiest way to reach me is LinkedIn or the message form at the bottom of this page, and my code lives on GitHub.
